DEAFS - Deaf English Athletics Federation Staffordshire

While 'Deaf' is generally synonymous with those who have hearing difficulties; 'DEAFS' is more than that. DEAFS - Deaf English Athletics Federation Staffordshire is a not for profit organisation, that is aimed at increasing sports and social interaction for those that are deaf, deafblind, disabled, their friends and families. We also encourage anyone interested in developing sports and social opportunities, healthy living, active lifestyles and general wellbeing for deaf and disabled people to get involved in a wide range of activities.

Equal opportunities to all sports related activities offers full social inclusion

Healthy Living

A healthy lifestyle has both short and long term health benefits, which include:

In the long term, eating a balanced diet along with regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight can add years to your life. There is also an added benefit of reducing the risk of certain diseases including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and obesity. Looking at the short-term, the benefits include giving you more energy throughout you everyday activities and helping you maintain a healthy weight.

Inclusion

The role of sport related activities in inclusion has shown to be strongly linked to building social relationships among young people and adults in communities. Sport has been used as a practical tool to engage members of previously under represented community groups.

Social inclusion also relates to offering equal opportunities to sports related activities and healthy lifestyle choices regardless of gender, ethnicity or ability.
